Picture this. Twelve people land at Jaipur airport at six in the morning, it’s already warm, and everyone has one suitcase plus a bag nobody planned for. Two taxis won’t fit them. Four taxis means four drivers to call, and by the time you reach the hotel near Amer half the family is on a different road. One proper van sorts all of that out, and that’s the whole reason a luxury Urbania in Jaipur is getting so popular.
But “luxury Urbania” is a term people use loosely, so a bit of explaining is needed before you book anything. Below we cover what you actually get, how the seat options differ, when a plain Tempo Traveller is enough, and a few things we’d check before paying an advance. If you already know what you want, the luxury Urbania Tempo Traveller in Jaipur page is the quicker route.
What the word “luxury” really means here
The Urbania is a van from Force Motors. A lot of operators now run it next to the older Tempo Traveller. “Luxury” isn’t a model name, it’s just what an operator calls an Urbania that has been set up for comfort. So two vans can both be sold as luxury and feel quite different once you sit in them. That’s why we keep telling people to ask for photos of the exact vehicle. Our Urbania Tempo Traveller page is a good place to see what the basic van looks like.
A proper luxury setup usually means seats that push back, an AC vent above each row, a decent music system, charging points, and bigger windows than you’d get in an older van. Does it matter? Ask anyone who has done Jaipur to Udaipur, about 400 km and six or seven hours with a tea stop, in a cramped vehicle. By the fourth hour you’d happily pay extra just to stretch your legs.
Which seating to pick
Start with how many people are going and then add two, because bags take up more space than anyone expects.
For a small family, or a couple travelling with parents, the 9 seater Urbania Maharaja seat is the one people enjoy most. The seats are wide and lean back far enough that an elderly parent can actually sleep. The Maharaja seat Tempo Traveller page has more on that seat style.
If you’re ten or eleven people, say a family trip or a small office group, the 12 seater Urbania leaves you a little breathing room. For a big wedding party or a joint family where everybody insists on travelling together, the 16 seater Urbania is the one to ask about. It’s tight with luggage though, so tell the operator how many bags you have.
When a normal Tempo Traveller is enough
Our honest take: if you’re doing a day of city sights with a big group of friends and the budget is tight, don’t overthink it. A regular Tempo Traveller will do the job and the money saved can go on lunch. Have a look at the 9 seater Tempo Traveller and the 12 seater Tempo Traveller hire in Jaipur pages for that.
Where the Urbania earns its higher price is on long drives, with older parents or small kids, or when you’re carrying guests you want to treat well. There’s also a middle option in our luxury Tempo Traveller, for people who want a bit more comfort without going all the way up.
Where it gets used the most
Weddings come first. At a wedding the only thing guests really care about is that nobody is left standing at the hotel gate while the baraat is already moving. One van that turns up on time, with working AC, takes a lot of stress off the family.
Company trips are the second big one: conferences, site visits, a team outing that ends with dinner at a rooftop place in C-scheme. People can rest in the van instead of sitting stiff for three hours.
Then there are families doing the usual Jaipur loop of Amer Fort, City Palace, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, and Nahargarh for sunset. That’s a lot of getting in and out. A driver who knows where to park near Amer, and which gate has the shorter queue, can save you close to an hour on a busy day.
Outside the city, Pushkar and Ajmer are the easy ones at two to three hours. Ranthambore works for a weekend. Delhi and Agra are around five hours each way, depending on traffic. For hourly or full day bookings around town, our Tempo Traveller on rent page explains how that works.
About the price
We’re not going to put a number here, because anyone who quotes a fixed price without knowing your dates and route is guessing. Wedding season, long weekends and festival dates push rates up, and the type of van and the distance change them too.
What matters more than the rate is what’s inside it. Tolls, parking, the driver’s night allowance and extra kilometres are the usual surprises. Ask for everything in writing before you pay (a WhatsApp message is fine) so there’s no argument at the end of the trip.
Before you pay the advance
See real photos or a short video of the van, not a picture from the internet. Ask whether it has a valid permit and insurance. Check that the driver has done your route before. Tell the operator your pickup time and bag count early. And read the cancellation terms first, because that’s the part people only read when something goes wrong.
Questions we get a lot
Is a luxury Urbania worth the extra money?
For a long drive or for older people in the group, yes, most of the time. For a short city trip with a lot of people, probably not.
How many people fit?
It depends on the seating. Common ones are 9, 12 and 16 seaters. Fewer seats means more room for each person, and more room for bags too.
Can I book one for a wedding?
Yes, but book early. In wedding season the good vehicles are gone weeks ahead.
Is fuel and the driver included?
Sometimes, sometimes not. It depends on the package, so ask and get the answer in writing.
One last thing
A luxury Urbania isn’t the cheapest way to travel, and it doesn’t need to be. Pick the seating that fits your group, see the actual vehicle, and get every charge in writing. If you send us your date, route and number of people, we’ll tell you which one makes sense.
